SZ podcast “To the Point”: AfD ban: Problematic, but effective

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution's report doesn't provide sufficient arguments for a party ban, says political scientist Stecker. Yet it would have significant benefits.
Since the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution upgraded the entire AfD to a confirmed right-wing extremist party, politicians have been discussing whether this should result in a ban procedure for the party.
Such a process is fraught with risks, especially because the outcome is uncertain, says political scientist Christian Stecker of the Technical University of Darmstadt. Furthermore, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution's report primarily provides evidence of the AfD's inhumane and racist ideology. Whether the party could be banned for this reason, however, is questionable. A ban on the AfD would be a great opportunity for democracy, he says. It would give it a chance to recover.
